Meet Dr. Polina Bryson, PhD

California License PSY20477

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience in behavioral health services, clinical supervision, clinical consultation, and graduate-level psychology instruction. I founded Strive to Thrive Psychology to support the mental health of individuals living with diabetes, major mood disorders, and other chronic illnesses/invisible disabilities.

My therapy practice is small by design. I strive to provide highly personalized treatment and it is very important to me to remember the many details of my clients’ lives and stories. I offer Telehealth services in California to adults ages 18 and up via a secure and HIPAA-compliant videoconference platform.

My style is client-centered: I leave my agenda at the door and meet you where you are. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can be your authentic, unapologetic self. In this safe space, you have the freedom to be curious, self-compassionate, and emotionally honest. This leads to collaborative creation of realistic, achievable treatment goals.

I use an integrative and interactive treatment approach, incorporating techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I am also a strong believer in having a sense of humor and common sense. Life is already too messy to overcomplicate it further and too short to take it too seriously (unless absolutely necessary.)

What fills my cup is quality time with family and friends, my dog, walking and running, the ocean, and geeking out to nerdy podcasts and videos ranging from aviation and space, to earth-bound travel, to animal care and rescue.

A personal connection

Diabetes and other chronic illnesses are personally important to me, as I witness and assist several close family members handling day-to-day challenges of living with various chronic conditions. I know how isolating and overwhelming managing chronic illness can be, and I understand the many frustrations of living with an invisible disability.

I see you, I hear you, and I am here to walk alongside you on your journey to live your best life.

Providing therapy services is my first step. My ultimate goal is to become further involved in and contribute to the community that is so valuable to myself and my family.
